چکیده

We report preliminary results of our H-band survey of the Chandra Deep Field South (CDFS). The observations were made using SofI on the NTT, and cover 0.027 square degrees with a 50% completeness limit ofH =20.5, and 0.17 square degrees with a 50% completeness limit of H =19.8. We used SExtractor to extract sources from our fields. In total we have detected 4819 objects. Star-galaxy separation was performed using the SExtractor parameter “stellarity index”. All objects with an index of 0.5 or lower were classified as galaxies. According to this criterion, 80 % of our detections are galaxies. We then compare our results with previous observations of the CDFS. Our astrometric solutions are in good agreement with the Las Campanas Infrared Survey (LCIRS), the COMBO-17 and the ESO-EIS surveys. The photometry of our catalog compares satisfactorily with the results of the LCIRS, as well as with the GOODS data. Galaxy number counts are presented and compared with the LCIRS results. The present data are intended to complement the recent and future multi-wavelenghth observations of the CDFS and will be used, in conjuction with additional multiband photometry, to find counterparts of the upcoming mid-infrared surveys with SIRTF.

Ultraviolet Number Counts of Galaxies from Swift UV/Optical Telescope Deep Imaging of the Chandra Deep Field South

Deep Swift UV/Optical Telescope (UVOT) imaging of the Chandra Deep Field South is used to measure galaxy number counts in three near ultraviolet (NUV) filters (uvw2: 1928 Å, uvm2: 2246 Å, uvw1: 2600 Å) and the u band (3645 Å). UVOT observations cover the break in the slope of the NUV number counts with greater precision than the number counts by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Space Telescope ...

The Extended Chandra Deep Field-South Survey: X-ray Point-Source Catalog

The Extended Chandra Deep Field-South (ECDFS) survey consists of 4 Chandra ACIS-I pointings and covers ≈ 1100 square arcminutes (≈ 0.3 deg) centered on the original CDF-S field to a depth of approximately 228 ks. This is the largest Chandra survey ever conducted at such depth, and only one XMMNewton survey reaches a lower flux limit in the hard 2.0–8.0 keV band. We detect 651 unique sources — 5...

Deep near - IR observations of the Chandra Deep Field and of the HDF South ⋆ Color and Number Counts

We present near-IR (J and Ks) number counts and colors of galaxies detected in deep VLT-ISAAC images centered on the Chandra Deep Field and Hubble Deep Field-South for a total area of 13.6 arcmin. The limiting surface brightness obtained is Ks≃22.8 mag/arcsec and J≃24.5 (1σ) on both fields. A dlogN/dm relation with a slope of ∼ 0.34 in J and ∼ 0.28 in Ks is found in both fields with no evidence...

Deep R-band photometry of the Chandra Deep Field South from the COMBO-17 survey

We report on deep multi-color imaging (R5σ = 26.0) of the Chandra Deep Field South, obtained with the Wide Field Imager (WFI) at the MPG/ESO 2.2 m telescope on La Silla as part of the COMBO-17 survey. We include an overview of the COMBO-17 project and a detailed reduction scheme for WFI survey data. We discuss particular treatment necessary for accurate flatfielding of WFI images taken in the s...

We present first results of the X-ray spectral analysis of the 500 ksec deep survey obtained with XMM-Newton on the Chandra Deep Field South (CDFS). Statistical distributions of spectral index and intrinsic absorption are derived for a sample containing 70 sources with a count limit of 100 (flux limit in the [2-10] keV band of 8.9 ×10 −16 erg cm −2 s −1), of which 44 have redshift identificatio...
